Primary Purpose of Job:  A Direct Support Professional, at our Day Program located in Harleysville, PA is to provide support and supervision to the men and women served, ensuring health, safety and well-being of all the individuals who attend Day Program, while assisting them to participate in community-based activities and planned program activities.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervise and counsel clients to help them more effectively master the goals that are listed in their individual support plans.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of life plans to improve social and work related skills of clients.
  • Implement and document educational programs as written by the Program Specialist (document attendance, record daily progress)
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and complete required training.
  • Participate in program plan meetings as required
  • Respond appropriately in emergency situations
  • Complete assigned required documentation, including but not limited to: program, behavior, medical, etc.
  • Assist in lifts, transfers and safety techniques as needed
  • Maintain behavioral supports developed by the individual's support team
  • Learn and follow agency policies/procedures and government regulations for the program
  • Administer medication, as needed and as prescribed by physician (must be med. Certified)
  • Assist the individual's support teams in developing and implementing behavior plans as needed
  • Maintain excellent communication with all members of the individual's support team
  • Follow schedule as created by the Program Specialist and/or designee
  • Develop teaching plan for activities that are assigned.
  • Prepare work areas and gather supplies needed for each session in accordance with the daily teaching plan
  • Ensure that the Creative Gifts site is left clean, sanitary and organized
  • Facilitate social integration and ensure safety for clients while in program and community settings.
  • Communicate with families or individual's support workers on an ongoing basis regarding the progress and needs of each client
  • Develop, coordinate and facilitate appropriate activities, both at the Creative Gifts site and during community outings
  • Encourage the development of social skills and meaningful interactions by modeling appropriate professional behavior
  • Other related duties as assigned


Other Job Functions:

  • Complies with the policies and procedures of Peaceful Living as well as the requirements set forth by the Department of Human Services and the Department of Health.
  • Maintains compliance with the Training Policy inclusive of all mandatory trainings; demonstrates competence and acquires certification in CPR/FA training as well as DPW Medication Administration
  • Works collaboratively with other departments to communicate medical, social, and behavioral needs of individuals served, in a timely fashion. Maintains professional communication and exhibits professional behavior with families, guardians, advocates of the residents and all other stakeholders
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Creative Gifts Manager

Language/Math/Computer Abilities:

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Must maintain a valid (state of residence) driver's license and driving approval from Peaceful Living.
  • Must attend and acquire certification in the DPW Medication Administration Course within one year of start date in position.
  • Must successfully pass and maintain all criminal background checks



Must be 18 years of age. Must possess a high school diploma/GED.


Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Moderate exposure to blood borne pathogens. If de-escalation techniques fail, physical crisis intervention may be required, in order to address aggressive behaviors that could put the individual or others at risk.


Physical Demands:

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds (independently), frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (independently) and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds (with assistance). Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop and kneel.
